7 Dec: Military workout for Scotland’s fundraising Santas
A group of fundraising Santas were put through their paces in Edinburgh today as British Military Fitness held a training session in preparation for the Great Scottish Santa Run on Sunday 13 December. The session took place at Princes Mall rooftop where the Santas were put through a rigorous programme of star jumps, leapfrogs and push ups.
This year’s event is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever with organisers looking to beat the current record of over 2,000 Santas taking part. The run, as always, is in the name of charity with all money raised going to two charities: When You Wish Upon a Star and Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids.
Santas of all ages can run, walk, hop, skip or jump around the 1.5km route in WestPrincesStreetGardens at 11am, with registration open from 10am at the Ross Bandstand. As part of Santa weekend, the run follows the official opening of Santa’s Gardens on Saturday 12 December, where Santa himself will make a grand arrival before declaring the gardens open.
The City of Edinburgh Council, Lord Provost Councillor George Grubb said: “The Great Scottish Santa Run is one of the highlights of Edinburgh’s Christmas and it’s brilliant to see so many people getting involved and showing their support for these worthy causes. There’s always a fantastic atmosphere during the run and there’s nothing better than friends and families enjoying themselves in the name of charity.”
To register for the event and join in the festive fun, budding Santas should visit www.thesantarun.org.uk. Adults are asked to donate £10 and £5 for children with each participant being given a Santa suit on arrival at West Princes Street Gardens.
